Book Review - Ashvamedha: The Game of Power by Aparna Sinha

Blurb-

You have to dethrone a powerful man to become the most powerful. I was itching to defeat the single most powerful person, but there wasn’t any. I was left with only one choice – to create one.”

Little did Ashwin Jamwal know that the last twenty-five years of his life have been controlled by a master manipulator, who wanted to make him the most powerful man on earth, though for a reason! Ashwin steps up to take oath as the youngest Prime Minister of India, and is unknowingly thrown into a vortex of power and authority as the entire world is threatened by a faceless enemy – Hades.

The world starts to look up to Ashwin as the savior, but he was just a pawn, reared only to be sacrificed in the end.

A story of greed, lies, deceptions, manipulations and corruption, Ashvamedha is a thriller revolving around the infamous game of power in a maddening bid to seek absolute control.

About the story-
The story centers on Ashwin, the Prime Minister of India. The plot shows how Ashwin, being the honest DC that he was, couldn’t exactly achieve his goals by being the servant of the government, until he decides to join the government on his own. While Ashwin rules the world, a faceless voice appears out of the blue – Hades, demanding the control over the world. Just when people think that Ashwin has overpowered Hades effortlessly, he comes in the limelight all of a sudden.

Who is Hades in reality?

Will he be able to conquer the world?

Can Ashwin find out Hades and kill him?

Writing & Narration-
The plot could have been spine-chilling if only the narration was up-to-the-mark. There are no quintessential points. The writing style does not differentiate from others. The editing hasn’t been done properly. The grammatical mistakes are the drawback of the book.

Title & Cover-
Honestly, I couldn’t find any correlation between the title & cover and the plot of the story. The story is totally based on the politics, the loopholes of the government, and the vindictive behavior. Maybe I wasn’t able to find out the relation between these aspects but I couldn’t find out why this book got such title & cover.

Pros-
  • ·         The desperation of coming in power has been shown precisely.
  • ·         The plot has an unexpected climax.

Cons-
  • ·         It has grammatical mistakes.
  • ·         The story is confusing with a lot of characters.
  • ·         The plot is predictable at some points.

My verdict-
The plot became interesting towards the end. The climax has been written amazingly. There are a few flaws that should be looked after. The author needs to sharpen her writing skills a bit. And also, concentrate a bit more on the narration. In the end, if you love political reads, then this book is definitely for you.

Ratings – 3/5
