Book Review - Bouquet by Subhrajyoti Parida

About the book- The book has 7 sections and each section offers you a certain number of poems. The book allows you to go through poems on various genres, like – mother, nature, emotions, etc. The poems are a plain sailing but touch the right chords. Narration- The narrative style of the poet is very simple. You wouldn’t find any complicated words all throughout the book. Although, since it is poet’s first book, so he has a lot to improve. I found some of the poems too childish, while some others were touching. A bit of editing could have changed everything. Title & Cover- The title of the book is not so catchy. The poet may have worked a bit on it. On the other hand, the cover is quiet attractive. Pros- ·          The poems are beautifully written. ·          The poet has done a great job being a debutant. Cons- ·          The ...

Book Review - Boltu by Debaprasad Mukherjee

Image
Blurb- “So you don’t like mysteries! Isn’t it?” Fotu-Babu was outrageous all of a sudden. “Then listen to this straightway you son-of-a-bitch. You are not my son. You are the product of a heinous act of your mother and what a whore she is!” Boltu felt his body going limp. Boltu was in his late teens when he discovered this rancorous truth of his life. By that time he had already been an antisocial, an outlaw and had been in bad company; but there was a subtle difference - he was a dreamer, he was a tender lover, he could sing and he had a true friend in Madhab. He wished to do something worthwhile; yet he lacked direction. Would Boltu keep drifting aimlessly? Or would he find his destination? Whether the destination would be worth its salt? About the story- The story revolves around Boltu, who does not stay in a good company and grows to be a street goon. He has every sort of trait in him that the regular roadside goons boast about. His life takes a lot of turns...

Book Review - The Story of the Dead by AC Raja

Image
Blurb- The novel takes its plot from the usually unnoticed cremation ground that is located at the centre of a thickly-populated city of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. A story weaved within a story; The Story of the Dead is a simple narrative where the wise Ollu gives voice to the silenced- to those individuals who were not strong enough to fight their own battles against corruption, social discrimination, and several other evil practises. The author beautifully manages to throw some light on the essential values of life and provide a brief insight into the basic principles of the Hindu philosophy. The Story of the Dead, which stems from the spiritual aura of Shri A. C. Raja, raises a new platform for Malayalam literature. About the book- The book states the conversation between an owl and the writer. The owl visits the writer every night and tells him the stories of the people who died and were brought for the burial or final pyre at the cremation ground.  Writi...
