Book Review - Let The Game Begin by Sandeep Sharma
Blurb-
Two kingdoms, Chaturanga and Sarprakt, separated by a mystic mountain range are at war with each other since ages. Chaturanga, ruled by King Viratha, is soon bestowed with a dynamic heir, and the whole kingdom is drowned in rituals and festivity. On the other side, Sarprakt is executing a cruel conspiracy. King Viratha, crippled by the conspiracy, urges the mysterious man of the mountain to devise a method to recreate the conspiracy and that gave birth to ‘The Game of Chess.’
Serial killings shock the nation as the police are rendered clueless. The killer leaves behind a trail of chess pieces with a strange message. Random people are murdered. Connoisseurs of different fields – History, Chess, and the Security forces – have united as the next intended victim is the most powerful person of the country. How is Chess involved in the whole scenario? How will they find a man who died 4000 years ago? Can a person defy the laws of nature? Does history really repeat itself? Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
About the story-
The story revolves around two kingdoms Chaturanga and Sarprakt. It tells how the king of one kingdom plans the conspiracy to ruin the king of the other kingdom. After many twists and turns history repeat itself in this era, after 4000 years. The evolution of the game of the chess and its connection with the murders happening around is the thing that every reader has to read.
Writing and narration-
The author and the editor have done something marvelous together. The ease with which the author has poured down his imagination is commendable. The narration style will keep the readers hooked till the very end. There were not even a single grammatical mistake and the language could be gulped down easily.
Title and cover-
When I first read those four words of the title mentioned in the story, I could feel the exhilaration dancing in my nerves and all I wanted was to explore what’s next. The relevance of the chess and its pieces throughout the end defines the appropriateness of the title. When it comes to the cover, so you won’t hesitate a bit picking up the book while having a first glance at the cover.
My verdict –
I surely don’t have words to give my verdict here. No words would be able to define how I was feeling going through the pages – thrill, excitement, exhilaration, nervousness – you name it! At every twist, I was swearing like anything and at the back of my mind the only thing was going – Man! How is it possible? I guess, this was my first historical thriller read and this book has increased the bars by manifold. The only thing I didn’t like was – to be continue!
