Synopsis –
She was born in Kolkata. She was an unwelcomed guest, a product of lust. She had to pay the price. She was abducted and trafficked to Hyderabad. She spent nine years begging on the roadside. Destiny brought her back to Kolkata where she was sold off to a procuress in Sonargachi. She married Raghu and started leading a healthy life. However she attempted a suicide. She was Ketaki. Why was Ketaki abducted and trafficked? Where were her father and mother? Was Ketaki ever able to meet her real parents? Why did she attempt the suicide? Was it all destiny that brought her back to Kolkata or did The Almighty have something else in his holy mind? After all, Joys and Woes are always woven fine!!
About the story –
This story revolves about a young girl Rania and her journey through Rania to Ketaki. Her journey includes a very mind and soul tiring experiences that can make any person to attempt the heinous thing – suicide. She was abducted and trafficked. She was beaten mercilessly. She went through several soul shaking experiences of rapes. This book will make you come across the brutal crimes that take place in those red light areas.
My verdict –
The author has very nicely narrated the story of an ill – fated girl, who was trafficked when she was an infant. All those incidences and the turmoil that she has gone through can give Goosebumps to any person. We can’t even think of shouting on a little child, but some people beat them blue and red, which is very saddening.
However, the main point where the story lacks is its editing. The editing could have been better. The concept is really very nice that will force the readers to think - why this happens to the little girls? The ending seemed abrupt. Apart from it, the author has done a good job in penning down the darkness of those unvisited lanes.
Ratings – 3/5
